I have a lot of friends. I still have the group of friends I hung out with when I was in high school. If you count all persons in this group, (the extended family, if you will), there's over 30 people.
We have a group on FB called "The Group."
We've been reminiscing about old times in this Group. And it got me thinking.
I am lucky. My three very best friends from high school? All still in my life. Regularly.
One watches my kids when I need her to, our sons are 4 weeks apart, she's Maggie's godmother.
We all have kids.
One was the maid of honor in my wedding and although her current significant other is a total douche bag, I still love her.
The other has a son and is currently pregnant after having lost a baby girl at 21 weeks due to an infection in her placenta. I'm the only one who knows about her current pregnancy, other than her husband and mom. And I could not be happier.
We pick up where we left off every time we see each other. There's never awkwardness. I've know these girls for nearly 15 years.
Along with everyone else in the group, which is mostly guys.
John was one of those guys.
Are there people in the group I don't care for? Definitely. Didn't care for them THEN. Some I cared for then but now they've changed into people I don't want to be.
My first love? In the group. And his beautiful wife. We're staying with them when we go to Denver this summer. He'll always have a special place in my heart, and I am glad we are still friends. I've known him for nearly 17 years.
I've dated a few people in the group. I've wanted to date a couple and didn't. A couple wanted to date me and I didn't.
But we are forever linked. We will forever be friends, in each others lives and hearts, even if just in a memory.
Because THAT is what friends are for.
I have a group like that too. I love it :)
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Shell's blog :)
That is amazing that you are still so close to each other! I'm friends with one person from high school!
ReplyDeleteIt's really great that you have kept those friends. Other than the casual contacts on FB, I am in touch with no one from high school. There are a few I want back in my life, but they don't seem interested. :(
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that you have such lasting friendships! I think that the older I get, the more is realize that when it comes to friendship, quality is better than quantity, and the quality of yours seems to be very good!!
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing that you're still friends with these people after all these years! I'm not friends with anyone from high school and truthfully? There are some that I miss. I wish our friendships have lasted like this. Be thankful for what you have, it sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love that y'all are all still connected. I can't name 1 person I graduated from HS with that I keep contact with (other than the random "LIKE" of a status on FB, of course).
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you for keeping those lines open!

That's awesome you've kept in contact with them.
ReplyDeleteI have only one person from school that I'm still friends with. We've known each other for 21 years...since 1st grade and I'm grateful for her friendship every single day.
