ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease)

Most people, myself included, have heard of Lou Gehrig's disease, but don't know what it is.  If you want to know more, http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html

Every year we walk in the ALS Association's walk to defeat ALS.  The organization raises money not only for research for a cure, but to help patients and caregivers with the insane financial burdens of this disease.  It is estimated it costs close to $100,000 per year for all the care an ALS patient may need.  My mom currently has a homecare helper that is at the house 9 hours a day while my stepdad works, because he can't afford to quit his job and take care of my mom 24/7.  If you'd like to support this cause, here's a link to our team page.

Finally, please take hear.  Cancer is a terrible disease, but is government funded.  ALS does not affect enough people, so the government does absolutely no research on it.  All research is paid for by donations.  So the next time you are tempted to donate to a cancer cause, maybe just this once, donate to something that is in desperate need of help.
