I know the saying is "don't sweat the small stuff." And I agree with not sweating the small stuff that doesn't matter, that's not important, the stuff you'll forget about tomorrow.
But there's some small stuff you should sweat. The stuff you'll remember always. The stuff you'll miss when it's gone. The stuff you'll remember like it was yesterday.
The night you and your best friends stayed out till 4 a.m. talking in some coffee house diner.
The song that reminds you of your oldest friend.
The song that reminds you of your first love.
The way your stomach used to flutter when your husband walked into the room.
The way you'd catch each other's eyes across the room, and say I love you without talking.
The excitement you felt when you knew he was proposing.
The joy when you said your vows.
The weird, but awesome, way it felt to say your new name the first time.
The moment you found out you were pregnant.
The moment you heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time.
The moment your baby was placed in your arms.
The look on your husband's face when he saw his child.
The first time your baby smiled.
The first time they reach for you.
The first time they touch you on purpose.
The first time they can hug you.
The first time they can kiss you.
And every time they do those things thereafter.
Remember watching them drift off to sleep.
Remember when no one will do but mama.
Remember watching your husband wrestle with them.
Watching him pick them up and smother them with kisses.
There's so many things that happen daily with my kids, and my husband that I take for granted, and I want to stop and sweat the small stuff. Stop and remember those things ten years from now when they don't care too much about mommy anymore.
My happiness. The loves of my life. My family.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, those small moments are so precious!
ReplyDeleteThose are "small" things totally worth sweating over. Totally.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great list of small things! We sometimes let these sneak by without taking the time to enjoy them. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteYou are so so right. Great post!! Love it
ReplyDeleteThis is one post that I'll sweat for a long time. It's so simple and very profound.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!
I'm a new follower and will be a frequent visitor. :) (originally from PYHO)
The small moments may be discrete, but the sum of them makes your life. I remembered all (well most) of the things you listed as I read through this post and now I am smiling!
ReplyDeleteThose moments are great...thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteOh geez, now you got me all teary-eyed. You are so right that those are the moments we need to cement in our minds because before we know it, our kids will be adults with kids of their own and we'll wish we had "sweated the small stuff" more often!!
