The title of this post is a shoutout to one of my oldest and best friends, who loves the Police for some unheard of reason.
Anyway.
I need help mamas.
PJ will NOT sleep throught he night.
He does on occasion, but not regularly.
I would like him to wake up on occasion.
He always wakes up once, usually between 1 and 4 a.m. He will only go back to sleep if I lay with him, which I don't mind doing. Usually I can then sneak out after he's fallen back asleep.
I don't want him to wake up. I want him to sleep all night! Not just for me (I tend to wake up to pee a couple times a night regardless), but for him.
I've tried figuring out if there is something waking up But he wakes at different times. His window faces our driveway, and I suppose it's POSSIBLE that someone is using our driveway to turn around, and the lights shining are waking him up, but EVERY NIGHT??
Do you have any tips, tricks, anything that has helped you to get your toddler to STTN? He goes to bed around 8:45 - he's one of those kids that can get by on 9-10 hours of sleep a night - so I don't think an earlier bedtime is necessary, nor do I think he would go down peacefully.
Help me mamas. Enlighten me.
my advice would tell you to go backwards so it won't do you any good but it's why Lovie will remain in her crib until she absolutely is too big or climbing out. since he's doing it every night, and since he's ok once you lay with him, i would venture to say this is all a habit now for him. and to break it will be HARD b/c it's going to require you to stop laying down with him. everything i've read about this says to make as little contact with the child as possible when they wake at night... sorry momma!!
ReplyDeleteI'm no help here girl since mine is smaller and not a toddler yet. I always wonder what wakes them up? I guess we will never know!
ReplyDeleteI did cry it out at different points with my babies. I hated it at the time, but it didn't last long.
ReplyDeleteHave you looked at the Sleep Lady shuffle? It's basically a gradual approach to helping toddlers sleep through the night without help. It takes time, but some people say it's worth it. Would a blankie or stuffed animal of some sort help him? Or a t-shirt of yours that he only has when he's in his bed? Something to remind him of you. I'm sorry I don't have better solutions.
ReplyDeleteLucas did not fully sleep through the night until he was over two years old. He would wake uP in the night yelling for milk- we would bring him a Sippy cup, he would drink it then chuck it out of his bed.
ReplyDeleteBut yea, it sounds like he likes the mommy time- might have to let him cry it out as hard as that is
I don't think I'd be of any help Lisa. My 2yo still wakes up sometimes twice a night to nurse. I've just gotten used to that and have not really worked on getting her to sleep through the night. I think it's a phase they go through. I've also noticed she tends to wake up more often when she's teething. I hope you find a solution. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteMine get up every now and then...completely randomly as well...they go right back to sleep though.
ReplyDeleteWhat about blackout shades? Would that be an option?
Also, whenever we're having issues, we do backup bedtime...they can soothe themselves to sleep and while it does take a while sometimes, it helps for them to have that alone time.
