The Art of Snobbery

Let me get one thing out there.

I hate snobs.

And by snobs, I mean the people who think they are better than everyone else, who refuse to eat at a chain restaurant because they'd rather drop $500 on a meal that is two bites and made of an animal I've never heard of, who will never buy clothes at Target, kind of snob.  (I also don't mean if you simply like trying new things so you don't do chains.  There's a difference.  And if Target clothes don't fit you right, also a difference).

Most snobs will never ADMIT they are snobs.  They will be aghast if you even so much as suggest the possibility.

However, I do think it's perfectly acceptable to be snobby in regard to certain things.  And I fully admit these things.  Keep in mind many snobs will also share these views.

For example.

  • Vodka.  I'll admit it.  Grey Goose is my vodka of choice.  I'm okay with Belvedere.  But I can tell the difference if my drink is made with Smirnoff.  I like my better vodka.
  • Steak.  I won't eat steak at Outback or Lonestar. Now that doesn't mean I won't GO to these restaurants and get something else. I just won't get steak because I love steak too much and I know where the good steak is (I'm looking at you, Ruth's Chris).
  • My kids' clothes.  I've heard all the rage about Once Upon A Child and all that jazz.  But there's something about dressing my kids in clothes that belonged to people I don't know, that came from a house that I don't know what goes on there, that I just can't do.  I will gladly take hand-me-downs from friends or family.  But as far as buying clothes?  I'll search for online discounts and buy stuff from Old Navy, Carters, Children's Place, etc.
  • Coca-Cola.  Now, I'm not sure if this one even counts.  I am a Coke drinker.  John is a Pepsi drinker.  I will not drink Pepsi.  If we go out to eat, and the restuarant has Pepsi products, I will ask if they have Dr. Pepper.  If they don't, I can stomach a fountain Pepsi.  But I won't even take a sip out of a can or bottle of Pepsi.  Something about fountain drinks makes all pop better, so it makes Pepsi tolerable.  Case in point -- when I go to any family function on John's side, I bring my own Coke because they all drink Pepsi.
Now, I have no issues with people who just drink Smirnoff, eat steak at Outback, buy clothes at Once Upon a Child, or drink Pepsi and hate Coke.  These are my snobby things.  I'm entitled to them, and you are entitled to yours.

What are you snobby about?

Ways to find me on Google

Yesterday I discovered the "keyword" section of Google Analytics.

This nifty little tool tells you what keyword searches lead people to your site.

Some are normal.

the o'gs blogspot

pj and maggie (although I find this a little weird because who randomly searches for these two names together?)

myhappiness-log

Then there are the ones that I just find amusing that people searched for and got a result to my blog.

i hate people that constantly want pity parties on facebook

hate everyone mean people

i'm a slob blog  (I find this one particularly funny)

Then there were a couple that I went 10 pages in on the google results and still couldn't find the link to my blog.  Like

woke up with poop in underwear  or when are kids the cutest

And then.  THEN there were these:

" my boobs were so huge"

1 girl get 50 dick in 1 day  (I'm guessing this person was SEVERELY disappointed in this.  I also didn't search because I knew which post this led him to, okay thanks bye)

So check it out.  If you don't have google analytics, you can go to your Stats tab on Blogger.

What interesting keywords have led people to your blog?

I bet none of you can get 50 dicks in 1 day. :)

PYHO: One and Only

I have two amazing children.  I have a fantastic husband.

Sometimes we need help.

Last night, John had to go to the ER.  He's doing fine -- he was having some severe pain and it was very concerning, so we went in and although he's still in pain, he's got pain meds and we're waiting for some test results to see if it's an infection.

Anyway.  Obviously I couldn't bring PJ and Maggie to the hospital with me.  So we had to ask my sister-in-law.

She came over right from work.  She didn't go home to see her OWN children.  To eat some dinner.  To change her clothes.

She came over immediately.  Our nephew came by to play with PJ for a little while.

She put my kids to sleep and waited for us to get home at nearly 11:00 last night.

She did it without thinking about it, without hesitation.

I felt bad though.  Not being able to go home and see her kids after working all day.  Not being able to eat dinner.  John kept telling me not to feel bad, that she's his sister, that we'd do the same for her.  And of course we would.  But....

I'm an only child.

I've never known the closeness of a sibling, the rivalry, the love, the fun, the fighting, the teasing.  It was always just me.

And as much as my SIL is a sister to me -- she really is, and I've told her so -- I've only had said "sister" for about six years.

Not my entire life.

I saw them lean on each other when their dad died.  I found myself wishing I'd have someone like that to lean on when my mom dies.  Someone who shared her as their mom.  Someone who I could talk about childhood memories with.

I have none of that.  It's just me.  I don't even have a father to share my first eight years of life memories with because my biological father is a loser and I haven't seen and/or spoken to him in 14 years.  My stepdad, as amazing as he is, wasn't part of my life till I was 8.  And even then, not so much because I had a hard time accepting him till I was much older.

I knew early on in life that I would not have only one child.  That I wouldn't subject my first born to the loneliness that I experienced -- sure, being an only child does have some perks -- but I longed for that playmate on a rainy day.  Or someone to sneak out to the living room and watch movies with.  Someone who I could talk to, joke with, laugh with.

Someone who would understand what it was like to lose my mom to a terrible disease, and not have her be able to be the Grandma she always dreamed of being.

I am so grateful that PJ and Maggie will always have each other.  I know they will fight, not get along, go through periods where they just can't stand each other.  But I also know that when they are adults, they will have each other.  And that is so comforting.

So to my SIL, who will never read this, thank you.  Thank you for being the sister I always wanted but never had.

Maggie, it's your birthday...

Mags turned the big ol ONE on 10-10 (as you already know of course). We had some present opening, took her to the zoo, and had cake that day.  Her big ol party was this past Saturday.  And since pictures speak a thousand words, I'll let them do most of the talking. :)

Just waking up and opening presents....what's this all about??

Hmm....I think I like this birthday stuff.

Here, Maggie, let me show you how it works. Or just steal it from you.

Check out my new doll and my new phone (we quickly discovered we should
have gotten a phone for PJ as well, and now we have two phones so there's no
ripping of the phone out of each other's hand, okay???).

Man, these people have bad voices.

I gots me some cake!

Mmm.  Cake.

Outside getting ready for her party...

So lady like.

Having a snack and leaving her crown on for 2.7 seconds.

Present time!! PJ was very helpful.

Another cake?  This is FANTASTIC.

See how she's eyeballing PJ's cupcake?
Baby girl there is an ENTIRE CAKE ON YOUR TRAY!

Do I really have to have this on my head??

AHHH! Look at the cake!

Oh well.  It's my party, I'll stick frosting in my hair if I want to.

I need a day.

I promise I will have the birthday party story and pictures tomorrow for miss Maggie's 1st birthday.

I need a day.

Since the middle of September, we've had something going on.  Every.  Single.  Weekend.

Baby showers.  Christening.  Out of Town.   My birthday.  Maggie's birthday.  Maggie's party.  John's birthday.

My body feels like it's about to fall apart.  My legs hurt from top to bottom.  I have a terrible pain in my back.  My asthma has been actng up terribly.

But last night?

We saw the Bears TROUNCE the Vikings.

I mean trounce.

Jay Cutler stayed upright.  The defense protected.  The offensive line protected Jay.

Devin Hester was ridiculous.  Again.

There were who we know they can be.

They got a glorious win for John on his birthday.

They made getting up today that much better.

Even if I feel like I got run over by a truck.

Sending out an SOS....

The title of this post is a shoutout to one of my oldest and best friends, who loves the Police for some unheard of reason.

Anyway.

I need help mamas.

PJ will NOT sleep throught he night.

He does on occasion, but not regularly.

I would like him to wake up on occasion.

He always wakes up once, usually between 1 and 4 a.m.  He will only go back to sleep if I lay with him, which I don't mind doing.  Usually I can then sneak out after he's fallen back asleep.

I don't want him to wake up.  I want him to sleep all night!  Not just for me (I tend to wake up to pee a couple times a night regardless), but for him.

I've tried figuring out if there is something waking up  But he wakes at different times.  His window faces our driveway, and I suppose it's POSSIBLE that someone is using our driveway to turn around, and the lights shining are waking him up, but EVERY NIGHT??

Do you have any tips, tricks, anything that has helped you to get your toddler to STTN? He goes to bed around 8:45 - he's one of those kids that can get by on 9-10 hours of sleep a night - so I don't think an earlier bedtime is necessary, nor do I think he would go down peacefully.

Help me mamas.  Enlighten me.

OH NO!

OH NO!

This is PJ's new favorite thing to say.

Drop a toy?

OH NO!

Drop a piece of food on the ground?

OH NO!

See some garbage lying out in the street?

OH NO!

Mumble in Happy Feet is getting chased by the sea lion??

OH NO!

Mr. Incredible being thrown around by whatever that huge thing is he fights?

OH NO!

You get the idea.

It's the cutest OH NO ever too.  I wish you could hear it.  He also says No all the time now which is lots of fun.

PJ do you want a hot dog?  NO!

PJ it's sleepy time! NO!

Do you want to go pee pee?  NO NO NO!

I know I've expressed a bit of concern about his talking, but I think he's just fine.  I think he really wants to make sentences, and he gets frustrated when he can't, and that's what it is.  He's saying new stuff every day.

Even though every color is blue when I ask.  But he can hand me the correct colors if I ask for the red one, orange one, etc.

Maggie says Ma, ma, ma and tries to say "Mine."  She sounds like the birds from Finding Nemo.  MINE MINE MINE.

She also says hi.  Because she's fucking adorable.

I love this age.  I have two toddlers yo!  It rocks.
