I purchased our first (and hopefully only) box of pull-ups this weekend.
Shit, pull ups are fucking expensive.
Anyway, our sitter requested them for potty training, and I plan to use them for naps/bedtime/car rides till I am confident PJ is fully potty trained.
I'm starting potty training boot camp on Thursday -- why Thursday? Because I AM OFF BECAUSE I START MY NEW JOB ON MONDAY.
Sorry. Sidetracked. I'm just a little excited.
I've gotten some great tips from my sister from another mister Rebecca. I'm doing the timer thing, the incentive thing, candy, prizes. I've got M&Ms, Reese Pieces, Toy Story Figurines, Big Boy Underwear, and I will probably get cookies involved.
PJ's already peed in the potty many times -- always before bath, and has actually told us twice when he had to go.
The goal is to have him completely potty trained by our next trip -- an off road trip to good ol' French Lick Indianda.
Any other tips you might have, feel free.
It's time for the pee.
Oh and AHEM.
I went to put the kids in the car this morning.
Opened Maggie's door.
No car seat.
It was in John's jeep.
That was already at the train station.
So (and the person who called me an irresponsible mother on my post about taking the kids out of their car seats is gonna LOVE this) I put Mags in PJ's seat.
I had PJ climb in, sit in the middle and I said STAY RIGHT THERE.
When I started moving, he was all "WOW" because he wasn't in his seat.
(The train station is one mile away. A mile and a half.)
He stayed there. Gave Maggie toys.
Maggie was ECSTATIC. She could see. She wasn't in an arched position. This is glorious.
Got to train station. Took out car seat. Mags was not happy to go back to rear facing.
PJ got in his seat all by himself.
Crisis averted.
And we're going to be turning Mags around. SOON.
Somebody left a comment about Mags' car seat?? Ugh. Whatever. I can see you're a good mom. Good luck w/ the potty training and GOOD LUCK at your new job!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad the crisis was averted! I'm sure you are super excited about your new job! Good luck with that and potty training :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I was out of the car seat when I was two. And I remember riding in my dad's Buick without seatbelts. Why? Because he cut them out of the car. That didn't make it safe, but it's just what they did back in the day.
ReplyDeleteYour son seems very astute. What are you going to tell him the next time he objects to riding in the car seat because you have allowed him to ride unrestrained a few times. You are setting a dangerous precedent and setting limits and discipline are not your strong suits. You seem proud of the fact that you have such disregard for safety.
ReplyDeleteEw. Did someone really say something about the whole car seat thing? This is why I'm not going to tell people when I have a kid. They'll get the graduation announcement when he/ she is 18. That way I can raise them without helpful "advice"....
ReplyDelete#1 - generic Pull-Ups. They will save you a lot of money. Especially if you can get them from Sam's or Costco.
ReplyDeleteOr training underwear and plastic liners. You can get them at Babies R Us. Thicker than regular undies and MIGHT contain all the urine. If not, that's what the plastic liners are for. They definitely know they have gone in those undies and they are not comfortable wet.
#2 - Sticker chart. Worked wonders for us. Our daughter LOVED getting new stickers for her chart, and it helped A LOT with potty training.
Good luck!
And driving a mile with PJ in the seat (I assume buckled in) so you could get Maggie's carseat? I would have done the exact same thing. What were you supposed to do? Call in because your carseat was a mile away in an unattended car? Not realistic. My parents live a mile from us and we occasionally let E ride home in the front seat (buckled in but no carseat) if it's late. She loves it and has learned it is a "treat" not an every day thing. Who doesn't bend the rules occasionally?
Wait...was that the same person up there??? ^^^
ReplyDeleteThankfully, she's never made a mistake or been caught between a rock and a hard place.
Good luck with everything...looks like I published right on time! You're going to do great!!!
Sarah - first, if you're going to comment, grow some balls and don't have no reply on so I can respond. Second, PJ had no problem going back into his seat, but I will tell you that EVERY child throws a fit about going into the car seat sometime or another (maybe you don't have children so you have no idea). I am not "setting a dangerous precedent" and who the hell are you to know what my strong suits are? Would you have rathered I missed a day of work? Would you have sent me a check for the missing pay? I would have sent all this to you in an email but you are too cowardly to allow that.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the hater. We all do things we say we never would do once we are moms as life happens. Good luck with potty training
ReplyDeleteEW SARAH!! If you are going to leave Lisa ugly comments, then at least give her the forum to respond to you. I cannot stand people who judge and criticize others and then hide behind a "no-reply". Also, just shut up in general. Lisa is a great mother and if you can't keep your worthless comments to yourself then go read someone else's blog. The internet's a big place honey, and if you can't say something nice, go play in another corner of it....
ReplyDeleteOh wow I just went back and read this to see who the "hater" was. Why do people do that? If they don't like what you have to say then why are they reading your blog? It's like if you don't like a TV show...well guess what you can turn it off. Ridiculous I say! Don't let the haters get you down Lisa!
